Lags in the boss fights

  • Ive been monitoring my connection to the game from the UK. This isnt the first time its been seen either. Runes Of Magic suffered the same.

    EFFECTS CAUSED BY LAG

    ================

    Boss fight

    1. You set of a spell or attack, zero effect, No missed message.

    2. Clicking to move, you fail to move then suddenly move back 30 yards or so to a previous stationary position

    3. Boss Party: You go to get your loot, you are suddenly ejected from the party and it tells you, "You are AFK" no loot no Kill xp and in cases you get booted off the server.

    4. Other effects are more minor like mutliple clicking need on a spell or action key and nothing happens.

    5. As soon as the Boss fight starts you get disconnected.

And the cause oi all this. DATA PACKET LOSS due to excessive PING times. Press CTRL + X to show your FPS and your PING time to the server. Obviously all over the world the time of PING is going to change. Peek times on the internet, like early morning and dinner time in each country is going to increase your PING TIME.

For example, here in the UK I can normally connect to the server with a LAG Time or PING of around 27 - 35 milli seconds. I get packet loss occasionally, but I dont go into Boss Fights wherever they are but the effect on the BOSS fight is seen here by a rise in PING.

What is PING time, it is the time taken for a data packet (Key press or click) on your PC to be received by the server for the game and then sent back to you is the effect ofr that key press or click.

You press KILL -------------> goes to Server (Inside server the command and effect are worked out) so -----------------> YOU (your Computer translates the data sent.

Each part of the journey takes time, although it is in milliseconds or small parts of a second it still takes time. Loads fo you in one fight all fighting at the same time and the PING is going to go up. Peoples connections break, Data packets get lost and so.

On Systems I have worked on in the past the cure for this can be simple or hard. Increasing the game Buffer size may be an option, but I am guessing the connection to and from the game is controlled by PLAYER.NEt GAMES and the setting is cast in stone and to make it better this Free to play game will need a better Server side control system to handle moments like this even though lets say, A boss fight, starts at 11:00 and the Boss goes BYE BYE at 11:02 the amount of data sent in that short period of time can and often does cause LAG or missed Data issues. Generally to see that data packets are received and dealt with correctly each is sent 4 times to the server, All 4 received, the instruction is carried out, 3 matching packets instruction is carried out, 2, 1 or zero packets, generally the instruction is ignored.

So as I said each of these instructions has to be received and Returned to be effective. As a player out in the boonies I see it by the same effects.

Servers depend on Processor time cooperation with each server running a number of controls on a number of programs at the same time. Game Servers are labour intensive. The effects you see here are the same ones that Runes Of Magic has put up with since conception.

I have posted this information for those of you who wish to get an idea of what is happening and an explanation .

This isnt a sales pitch but there is a piece of software out there you can use to make your end of the connection as efficient as possible.

    TCP OPTIMISER

Free to download, free to use. It helps make your connection sent efficient data packets to the internet. Gnerally every router connection to the internet is at 1500 MTU ( Maximum Transmittable Unit) by default, all companies have the opinion that their connection is flawless. In the real world you can test this and set your own MTU to the most effective size so you dont end up with router sending bad data. Ive been using this little program now for close on 22 years and in every occasion it has improved the operators connection efficiency. I didnt write it, I just downloaded it and used it. Its helped me get better results on games I play where LAG is a big issue, it can cut your overall ping time too.

So before you go saying that the Engineers and GM's arent doing their job, take a minute to see if you can do something your end to help them and yorself have a wholy better internet experience.

I hope this helps those who need it.
