I have accumulated all sorts of quest derived items and they take lots of storage space. Can I safely dispose of these? Things like random gifts, leftover kobold food, and spider vemom are stinking up the joint.

Most of these should be fine to be removed. If you would throw something mistakenly you can always ask to get it restored via support.
If you are unsure you can get your bank storage at bank managers in Itnal Camp in Lost Island of Atlantis or in Varanas / house maids. You can also get your own house at house maid NPCs and get there chests with storage space.

Viele Dinge lassen sich nicht einlagern, die schleppt man mit sich rum und belasten den Rucksack. Müsste vielleicht mal bissl was geändert werden.

- Some quest items are only in the backpack. We can't put them in the bank or anywhere. If such a situation is the case, the solution I follow for this situation is to put only these items in a place in my backpack. My priority is to do these tasks and get rid of these items.
